If you aren’t a fan of The Golden Girls, GTFO.
The #1 reason that I love the classic 1980’s sitcom is Bea Arthur’s portrayal of Dorothy Zbornak, AKA a masterclass in sarcasm. Whether you’re a smartass with a flair for zingers, or merely a fan of caftans and oversized tunics, Bea is complete perfection.
Though the actress passed away in 2009, her iconic role of Dorothy Zbornak (and run as Maude in the 1970’s), lives on forever. Inspired by the wit and sheer badassery of Queen Bea, artist Mike Denison issued himself a challenge: Draw a picture of Bea Arthur every day for a year. Denison began his journey back in September of 2013, and he’s currently coming into the home stretch with only 55 Beas left to create. Mike chronicles them all on his Tumblr, Bea A Day.
Join me on the Lanai for some imaginary cheesecake while I share Mr. Denison’s GENIUS WORK!
And per the usual on this dump of a blog, I saved my favorite for last:
Do yourself a favor and head over to Mike’s Etsy shop, you can buy originals and prints of his greatest hits, he even does commissions!
