Neil Armstrong 1930-2012

Forever a hero.

Neil Armstrong, American Hero has died, he was 82 years old. Rather than wallow in the sadness of his passing, I want to instead focus on his bravery. In a letter released just last week, Richard Nixon’s speechwriter, William Safire wrote a speech and talking points for the president in the event the 1969 Moon Landing mission went awry.

The following was in Nixon’s hand in the event the Astronauts were stranded on the moon, (nothing like being positive and prepared!)

Armstrong and his fellow crewmen were all prepared to lay down their lives for science. This speech demonstrates the gravity (crowd groans) of the situation.

Sweet Dreams Lieutenant Armstrong, may you land among those glorious stars you navigated for mankind and science.

  1. Who would have thought that Neil Armstrong would outlive our country’s manned space flight program? Rest in Peace, NASA and all who worked so hard to expand our horizons. The dreamers, the scientists, the greatest minds of a nation gathered in the name of the United states of America. Barack Obama is making Clear Lake look like a ghost town. The entire NASA budget for a year would run Health and Human Services for FOUR DAYS. Was that too much to ask for a brain trust? Maybe America is trusting the wrong brain.
