The Fifties were freaking disgusting.

Get your mind out of the gutter.

Just the other evening, Lover fo’ Life and I were turning some good friends on to Indian Food, when the conversation turned to our parents. More specifically, their eating habits and preferences. As we each shared anecdotes from our childhoods, one thing became perfectly clear, our parents have no taste.

Of course they have taste buds and can tell the difference between milk or tomato juice. But they despise anything seasoned. Story after story revolved around children being subjected to various meats and vegetables boiled and non-salted within an inch of child abuse.

Ever the diplomat, I came up with an explanation for the lack of love towards all things delicious and or containing a spice.

The reason is simple: Our folks grew up with foods from the 1950′s. The horrid concoctions they were forced to eat on a daily basis, rendered them tasteless.

Leave it to the good folks at buzz feed to deliver all the evidence I need to prove my theory fact. I give you: “42 Weird Meals from the Fifties!”

Hold on to your BREAKFAST kiddies, these things are GROOOOOSSSSSS!

That being said, #33 looks delicious, not disgusting, GET IN MAH MOWF!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. um, next time i get hitched (and there will be a next time, damnit!!), I would like my entire reception built around these horribly, disgustingly delicious 1950′s foods.(You know, the party after the classy courthouse ceremony in the middle of the week.) Thank you and good day.

  2. Ah, the distinguished palate of a Southern Lady, no doubt. My dee-ah, when that day comes, I’ll make 5 gallons of ambrosia, throw it in the back of the mom-mobile and drive it to your wednesday afternoon nuptuals! To LURVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
